Two of the first questions people ask is, "how much should I spend on cloth diapers" and "how many diapers do I need"?  There really is not an easy answer to these questions; it depends on you and your budget.

One of the first things you need to know is that you are not spending money. You are investing it.   Even though you might not see a profitable return, you are saving money every time you change a diaper.  One of the best parts is when you are done using your cloth diapers, you can resell your stash or reuse them on your future children.  This brings your cost of cloth diapers down and your savings go up.

When first starting with cloth, we suggest picking out one or two different brands to try (not every diaper works for every child).  Once you find something that works well for you, your family, and your pocketbook you need figure out how much you want to invest.  Please use our questionnaire to figure out how many diapers you might need and how much money you want to invest in cloth.

1) How often are you going to do laundry?  If you do laundry every day you will not need as many diapers as someone that might do laundry every other day.

2) How old is the child you will be diapering? A newborn can easily go through 12-18 diapers a day!  Once they get a little older, you will go through about half of that amount per day.

3) How much do you want to save?  This is estimated: spending $70.00 per month in disposable diapers, $350.00 total in cloth diapers, washing 4 times a week paying $.69 (average amount) per load to wash and dry your diapers (including detergent) can save you over $1,700.00 in the 3 years your child is in diapers.  That is huge and it only gets bigger if you use the diapers again for future children!
